WASHINGTON, Oct 29 (KUNA) -- The GCC States underlined on Wednesday their firm backing to the Palestinian state and its people, and abidance by the two-state solution vision.
This came in a statement in the name of GCC members read out by Diplomatic Attachأ© of Kuwait's Permanent Mission to the United Nations Maryam Al-Mansouri before the third committee of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly in New York.
The Gulf States also stressed commitment to international law principles of human rights and international humanitarian law, including the relevant rules approved by the UN, she noted.
The GCC States thank Special Rapporteur on human rights situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territories (OPTs) Francesca Albanese for her appreciated efforts to highlight serious violations committed by the Israeli occupation against Palestinians due to continued aggression and siege imposed on Gazans, she added.
The Gulf group stressed the need of mandate of Albanese in the OPTs, rejecting sanctions imposed on her, Al-Mansouri pointed out.
Such measures undermine the independence of human rights mechanisms and international efforts aiming to hold accountability, she elaborated.
She referred that the GCC States' firm stance was manifested through tangible steps, mainly during the recent Israeli war on Gaza, during which they provided extensive humanitarian support to Gazans, in line with international organizations, including UNRWA, and through all possible means and channels, along political and legal backing at all levels and in all international areans.
The Gulf States welcomed the outcomes of Egypt's Sharm El-Sheikh Summit and the start of implementing a ceasefire based on the peace plan submitted by US President Donald Trump, in terms of ceasing fire, the full withdrawal of Israeli occupation army's, stopping all attempts of annexation and displacement, paving the way for wide-scale relief operations, starting early recovery efforts, rebuilding and creating new aspects for peace to restore hope to Palestinians in a manner that ensures their right to self-determination, Al-Mansouri stressed.
The diplomatic attachأ© further pointed out that the GCC States affirm the key role played by special rapporteurs and working groups in human rights, in accordance with the resolutions of the Human Rights Council establishing their mandates and respect for the Code of Conduct for mandate holders within the framework of the Council's special procedures.
