BEIRUT, Oct 28 (KUNA) -- Lebanese President Jospeh Aoun on Tuesday affirmed necessity of activating tasks of the Ceasefire Monitoring Committee (CMS) and halting recurring attacks by the Israeli occupation and enabling southerners return home.
A Presidency statement said president Aoun made the statement during a meeting with US envoy to the Middle East Morgan Ortagus, accompanied by American diplomats.
President Aoun urged Washington, during the meeting, to exert pressure on the Israeli occupation to stop the repeated attacks on Lebanon's sovereignty and abstain from actions that prevent the southern citizens from returning to their houses and repair the destroyed properties ahead of winter.
Separately, the president received the chief of the Egyptian General Intelligence Service (GIS), Major General Hassan Rashad, who conveyed greetings from President Abdelfattah Al-Sisi and Cairo's readiness to help Lebanon restore stability in the south and end the turbulent security situation, re-affirming support for the country in various spheres.
President Aoun welcomed any Egyptian effort to help in stopping the attacks and restore stability to the country.
Earlier, Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri received Ortagus, discussing the daily Israeli breaches and activation of the CMC. Identical issues were also broached in a separate meeting between Prime Minister Nawaf Salam and Ortagus.
Salam, in a statement, said these talks aimed at ceasing the hostile acts and ensuring full withdrawal of the occupation forces from the Lebanese territories. He also called for holding international conferences to lure support for the army, the state security forces and shore up the economy. (end)
