US Secretary of State Marco Rubio
WASHINGTON, Oct 23 (KUNA) -- US Secretary of State Marco Rubio warned late Wednesday that Israeli occupation's attempt to annex parts of the West Bank or expand its sovereignty there "threatens" the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip.
"I think the president's made clear that's not something we can be supportive of right now," Rubio said to reporters of annexation as he boarded his plane for a visit to Israeli occupation.
He noted that the occupation Knesset's approval of draft laws aimed at asserting control over the West Bank could endanger the US peace proposal for Gaza.
He added that such move "might be counterproductive" and could pose a threat to the peace agreement.
Earlier, the US Department of State announced in a statement that Secretary Rubio would visit Israeli occupation from October 22 to 25 to support President Trump's peace plan.
The statement also noted Rubio's optimism about building a historic momentum towards lasting peace and integration in the Middle East.
Late Wednesday, the Israeli occupation's Knesset approved in a preliminary reading a bill to annex the West Bank, coinciding with US Vice President JD Vance's visit to Israeli occupation and despite Trump's earlier warnings against any annexation steps. (end)
