Kuwait's Assistant Foreign Minister for Consular Affairs Affairs Aziz Al-Daihani
KUWAIT, Oct 22 (KUNA) -- Kuwait's Assistant Foreign Minister for Consular Affairs Affairs Aziz Al-Daihani on Wednesday stressed harnessing AI to boost humanitarian institutions' efficiency, accelerate response to beneficiaries, and align with global advancements for greater impact.
Al-Daihani, on behalf of Foreign Affairs Minister Abdullah Al-Yahya, opened the Gulf Red Crescent's First AI Conference in Kuwait, titled "Toward New Horizons in Humanitarian Action and Development Media: Harnessing the Power of AI."
He said that holding the conference at this critical time reflects Kuwait's commitment to humanitarian values and GCC cooperation, providing a vital platform to share expertise, boost innovation, and promote sustainable regional efforts.
KRCS Chairman Khaled Al-Maqamis said the society has started integrating AI into its programs to enhance humanitarian work, improve needs assessment, data management, and accelerate response efforts.
He stressed the importance of data protection, fairness, and humanity as the core of every innovation.
Al-Maqamis called for stronger partnerships between humanitarian organizations and the tech sector, along with the development of an ethical framework to guide their collaboration.
Mamadou Sow, Head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Regional Delegation to the GCC, welcomed the gulf's investments in AI and innovation, expressing hope they will boost the region's status as a global leader in humanitarian technology.
Representative of the GCC Secretariat-General, Abrar Al-Salem, said the conference reflects a forward-looking vision for Gulf cooperation, expecting practical recommendations to strengthen humanitarian and development media.
Al-Salem called for greater collaboration to explore AI's humanitarian applications and create a unified Gulf framework.
Chairman of Abdullah Al-Nouri Charity Society, Jamal Al-Nouri, emphasized that digitalization and AI would boost efficiency, transparency, and outreach in charity work, enhancing donor confidence, needs forecasting, rapid response, and remote service development.
The conference included two panel discussions on AI in humanitarian data and ethics, in addition to two workshops on media in relief and humanitarian work. (end)
