GENEVA, Oct 21 (KUNA) -- The Swiss Federal Department of Economic Affairs Education and Research (EAER) announced on Tuesday the addition of 24 individuals and 23 legal entities to the list of persons and organizations subject to sanctions against Iran.
In a statement, the department explained that the new measures decided by the Federal Council during its meeting yesterday Monday, will enter into force on October 21, noting that this step comes within the framework of Switzerland's commitment to international sanctions imposed on Iran due to its nuclear activities and human rights violations.
The statement added that the Swiss Federal Council, since 2007, adopted a series of coercive measures against Tehran in implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolutions 1737 1747, 1803, and 1929, and subsequently partially adopted the sanctions of the European Union.
It further noted that Switzerland eased some of the restrictions imposed on Iran following the entry into force of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in 2016 in line with UN Security Council Resolution 2231 (2015) but has maintained a number of sanctions related to nuclear activities and human rights.
The current Swiss sanctions include the freezing of financial assets a ban on the supply of military equipment and surveillance devices, as well as restrictions on investments in the nuclear sector and a prohibition on providing maintenance services to Iranian cargo aircraft. (end)
