KUWAIT, Oct 19 (KUNA) -- The Kuwait Writers Association inaugurated its new cultural season on Sunday, honoring winners of its literary award in the inaugural edition, under the patronage of Sheikha Afrah Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah.
In his remarks, Association Secretary General Eng. Humaidi Al-Mutairi said the event celebrates authentic expression and creative thought, reflecting the Association's commitment to nurturing literary talent.
The award for best novel was presented to the renowned Kuwaiti novelist Saud Al-Sanousi for his novel (Asfar Madinat Al-Teen), while the best poetry collection went to Faleh bin Tefla for his collection (Aqmar wa Sharafat).
The best children's story award was shared between Shaimaa Al-Qallaf for (Qalb Rabab) story and Hadeel Al-Hasawi for (Kayfa Ikhtafa Al-Alam) story.
The best critical article award was jointly awarded to Batoul Al-Khamees for her a piece on reform culture in children's literature, and Muna Al-Shafei for her impressionistic reading of (Halat Nadra 6) by Abdulwahab Al-Rifai.
Al-Mutairi noted the award's positive impact, as seen in increased membership and participation, affirming the growing trust in the Association's role and message.
Sheikha Afrah expressed pride in sponsoring and being a member of the Association, stating that literature is not a luxury, but a reflection of identity and a bridge between heritage and modernity.
Sheikha Afrah emphasized that the award is not merely a symbolic gesture, but a culmination of creative journeys and a motivation for young talents who represent the future.
Chair of the award's jury panel, Dr. Salem Khadadah, said the award reflects a genuine desire to elevate creative expression by recognizing excellence and encouraging hidden talents to emerge.
He added that the objectives of the award center on fostering competition and raising the level of literary arts across all genres, noting the committee's dedicated efforts to reach its final decisions. (end)
