CAIRO, Oct 19 (KUNA) -- UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said on Sunday that it is essential to promote joint action within a multilateral framework to ensure a strong African representation at international institutions.
"And let's keep working to strengthen multilateralism for the future. That includes ensuring African countries have stronger representation in global institutions through reform of the international financial architecture and reform of the UN Security Council," he said in a video message at the Aswan Forum on Sustainable Peace and Development in Egypt.
"Africa's permanent representation is long overdue," Guterres said, calling for keeping joining forces to realize the promise of the 2030 Agenda and the African Union's Agenda 2063.
Leaders from across Africa and beyond are gathering in Aswan, Egypt, for the fifth edition of the Aswan Forum on Sustainable Peace and Development, held on October 19-20 under the theme: "A World in Flux, A Continuant in Motion, Navigating Africa's Progress Amid Global Shifts".
The high-level platform brings together heads of state, policymakers and international partners to advance African-led solutions linking peace, security and development at a time of mounting global uncertainty. (end)
