Egypt Agriculture Min.: Integration with Sudan key to regional food security

CAIRO, Oct 17 (KUNA) -- Egyptian Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Alaa Farouk affirmed Friday that agricultural integration between Egypt and Sudan constitutes a key pillar of regional food security and a model of productive partnership between the two countries.
According to a statement by the ministry, Farouk met with Sudanese Minister of Agriculture Dr. Ismat Al-Qurashi to discuss ways to enhance cooperation in agricultural and developmental fields.
The talks addressed boosting trade in agricultural and food commodities, overcoming logistical obstacles, and exploring joint agro-industrial ventures to increase value-added production and market competitiveness.
Farouk reiterated Egypt's commitment to providing technical support and sharing expertise with Sudan, mainly in investment opportunities and modern technologies to raise productivity and optimize natural resource use.
For his part, Al-Qurashi emphasized the importance of partnership with Egypt, describing the meeting as a strong boost to bilateral agricultural relations. He praised Egypt's continued support for African nations, especially Sudan in developing laboratories and training personnel on advanced agricultural practices.
Both ministers agreed to form a joint technical committee and establish permanent contact points to ensure implementation of the discussed initiatives in a way that benefits both peoples and strengthens agricultural integration. (end) aaf.hs
