Russia's FM: Gaza ceasefire should be lasting

MOSCOW, Oct 16 (KUNA) -- Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Thursday that Moscow expects agreements between the Israeli occupation government and Hamas to be respected, underscoring the need for a durable Gaza ceasefire to stabilize the region.
Speaking at a joint press conference with Morocco's Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita in Moscow, Lavrov said they reviewed Middle East developments, especially the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, noting Morocco's role in supporting efforts toward a comprehensive, peaceful solution.
Lavrov said he discussed bilateral trade and economic ties with Bourita, with both sides committed to strengthening friendly relations, strategic partnership, and expanding trade and investment.
He commended Morocco's "balanced" approach to the Ukraine crisis.
Meanwhile, Bourita said Moroccan and Russian positions are closely aligned on regional issues, welcomed efforts that produced the latest ceasefire, and highlighted Russia's standing in Africa.
He said he will meet Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Patrushev to advance economic, humanitarian, and educational cooperation, and announced new direct flights from Casablanca to Saint Petersburg to boost tourism and societal ties.
