VIENNA, Oct 13 (KUNA) -- Officials from Kuwait's Department of Legal and Legislation took part in UN Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) meeting in Vienna on Monday. The 82rd session, which takes splace on October 13-19, touched upon recognizing and enforcing electronic arbitration awards amid the growing shift toward digital mechanisms in resolving international commercial disputes, according to UN Information Centres (UNICs). The Department officials, attorneys Mohammad Al-Khwaitem and Farah Al-Rais, exchanged views with other delegations about national and organizational experiences in handling electronic arbitral awards, along with legal and technical challenges, and include proposals to amend the Model Law on International Commercial Arbitration and the UNCITRAL Arbitration Rules to incorporate provisions on digital data, e-signatures, and electronic delivery.
The meeting aims to establish a unified international legal framework ensuring that electronic arbitral awards carry the same legal weight and enforceability as traditional paper-based decisions, reinforcing confidence in digital arbitration and supporting the global transition toward electronic dispute resolution.
