EU allocates EUR 10 mln to support "Special Tribunal for Russia's crimes in Ukraine"

BRUSSELS, Oct 13 (KUNA) - EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Kaja Kallas announced on Monday that the EU has decided to provide an initial funding of EUR 10 million for the "Special Tribunal for Russia's crimes in Ukraine", to ensure that those responsible for the crimes of aggression do not escape justice.
"The evidence of Russia's war crimes in Ukraine is plain to see," Kallas said, stressing that "unpunished crimes only encourage new atrocities." Her remarks came during a visit to the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, where she warned that Russia was "gambling with war" following a series of incidents involving Russian drones and military jets crossing into the airspace of several EU member states.
"Every time a Russian drone or plane violates our airspace, there is a risk of escalation, unintended or not. Russia is gambling with war," Kallas said.
"To keep war at bay, we must translate the economic power of Europe into military deterrence," she added, emphasizing the need to strengthen Europe's defensive capabilities in the face of growing Russian threats.
Kallas noted that her visit to Kyiv aimed to discuss military and financial support for Ukraine, particularly for the rehabilitation of the country's energy infrastructure, as Russia has resumed its attacks on power plants ahead of the winter season. (end) arn.seo
