KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 13 (KUNA) -- President of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto has instructed the Indonesian Armed Forces to prepare peacekeeping troops for possible deployment in the Gaza Strip.
In a press statement on Monday, Presidential Affairs Minister Prasetyo Hadi, following a meeting at the president's private residence in Jakarta, which was attended by Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces General Tandyo Budi Revita, said that sending Indonesian troops would be possible if a constructive agreement was reached at the Gaza Peace Summit to be held in the Arab Republic of Egypt.
If the negotiations yield positive results or peace is achieved, this could entail the deployment of Indonesian forces to participate in peacekeeping missions in Gaza, he added.
He pointed out that the Indonesian President's participation in the Sharm El-Sheikh Summit reflects Indonesia's commitment to maintaining its good diplomatic relations and supporting international efforts to achieve peace in Gaza.
President Subianto announced in his address to the 80th session of the UN General Assembly in New York last September that his country was prepared to send 20,000 troops or more to participate in peacekeeping missions, whether in Gaza or other conflict zones such as Ukraine, Sudan, and Libya, if authorized by the UN Security Council and General Assembly.
