Security forces kill 30 militants in N. Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, Oct 10 (KUNA) -- At least 30 militants were killed in a series of operations against the militants involved in killings of soldiers of Pakistan army recently in Pakistanآ’s northern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) province bordering Afghanistan, said military on Friday.
In a press release, the Pakistan military said security forces have been conducting a series of retribution operations against the militants involved in a heinous incident that occurred in Orakzai district resulting in the killing of several soldiers and two officers.
During the conduct of the operation, based on credible intelligence, in general area Jamal Maya of Orakzai District, after intense exchange of fire, 30 militants involved in the incident were killed, it added.
"These successful operations have avenged the heinous act and have brought the main perpetrators to justice," said the release.
Earlier on Wednesday, the military confirmed that at least 11 soldiers, including two officers, were killed, while 19 militants were killed in a security operation in the tribal district of KPK.
The operations come at a time when Pakistan is witnessing a rise in terror attacks especially in KPK and Balochistan provinces bordering Afghanistan. (end) sbk.mt
