WASHINGTON, Oct 7 (KUNA) -- Kuwait signed Tuesday an agreement with the United States to enhance cooperation in customs operation and border security, as well as the exchange of technical expertise.
The agreement was signed during a meeting in Washington D.C between Kuwait's First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Yusuf Saud Al-Sabah and Commissioner of the US Customs and Border Protection Agency Rodney Scott, according to a statement by the Ministry of Interior.
During the meeting, Sheikh Fahad discussed with Commissioner Scott the potential of cooperation for improving customs operation and port security.
They also reviewed mechanisms for exchanging experiences in operating passenger and cargo flights between the two countries more efficiently to keep pace with security and technical developments.
Sheikh Fahad watched a presentation about the operational procedures and modern surveillance and inspection systems used in managing passengers and goods' movement.
They discussed the possibility of organizing training programs to qualify national cadres in port management and utilizing smart systems to improve border inspection and control.
Sheikh Fahad Al-Yusuf affirmed Kuwait's desire to expand areas of customs and security cooperation with the United States. He also stressed, according to the statement, the importance of continued coordination to build sustainable national capabilities that can keep up with rapid changes in port security.
Kuwait's Ambassador to the United States Sheikha Al-Zain Al-Sabah attended the meeting. (end)
