KUWAIT, Oct 5 (KUNA) -- The Public Authority for Disabled Affairs (PADA) and the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) GCC Chapter signed on Sunday a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to update the Kuwaiti national framework for digital access for people with disabilities, in a cooperation with the Central Agency for Informational Technology (CAIT).
Speaking to KUNA, PADA's Chief Specialist Engineer at PADA Amna Safar affirmed that the MoU would facilitate the use of applications and services for people with disabilities.
The National Code for Digital Framework was launched in 2018 and will receive an update to serve this important sector of society who are face some difficulties in accessing their smart devices and websites, she affirmed.
She went on to say that training courses and programs will be set for government entities in cooperation with CAIT to promote the update, which comes in line with Kuwait Vision 2035 especially within digital transformation.
Meanwhile, CEO of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) GCC Chapter Mohammad Ashkanani said the MoU would enable people with disabilities to use electronic services independently.
The MoU will standardize website and government application usage, he revealed, adding that such a plan requires training of government and private sector staff to achieve this goal.
He hoped that all services would be standardized by 2026 for people with disabilities especially on applications such as the Sahel government services application.
Similarly, CAIT's Chief Specialist for Digital Services Wafaa Al-Otaibi affirmed the authority's keenness on assisting the government's digital transformation process.
She revealed that CAIT took initiative in coordinating with government entities to implement the National Framework for Digital Access within its 2026-27 budget, to ensure that government bodies are ready to update their services and websites.
Several meetings were held with government entities in this regard, she revealed, adding that CAIT would continue to update the framework to meet the needs of all citizens and residents. (end) slm.gta
