MANAMA, Oct 1 (KUNA) -- Chairman of the Kuwait-based International Islamic Charitable Organization Abdullah Al-Maatouq and Kuwait's Zakat House have been declared winners of the GCC Award for humanitarian action for 2025.
Speaking at the honoring ceremony, Al-Maatouq, who also serves as a Special Advisor to the UN Secretary General, commended the award as an important platform for boosting GCC contribution to global humanitarian action.
He called for buttressing strategic partnership among GCC humanitarian organizations for dealing with challenges.
The seventh edition of the GCC Award for Humanitarian Action was organized in Manama Tuesday by the Manama-based Regional Network for Corporate Social Responsibility, in collaboration with the Executive Office of the Council of Ministers of Labor and Social Affairs of the GCC member states and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).
For his part, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Royal Humanitarian Foundation and Chairman of the GCC Humanitarian Award for 2025 Adnan Al-Qattan expressed his pride in the launch of the seventh edition of the award.
This award has established itself as a platform for honoring outstanding initiatives and exchanging humanitarian experiences, he said, stressing that humanitarian work in the GCC countries is a cultural and moral duty rooted in Islamic and Arab values.
Director General of the Executive Office of the Council of Ministers of Labor and Social Affairs of the GCC member states Mohammed Al-Obaidly emphasized that the award embodies the GCC countries' commitment to the values of solidarity and mutual support.
He praised the role of the Kingdom of Bahrain and its partners in organizing this Gulf humanitarian event.
The ceremony honored a number of Gulf personalities and institutions in the categories of individuals, government agencies, and the private and non-profit sectors, including Dr. Al-Maatouq, who received the Award of Excellence in the field of Gulf international humanitarian work.
Al-Obaidly was named "International Ambassador for Social Responsibility" in recognition of his efforts to promote Gulf humanitarian work.
The Kuwaiti Zakat House, the Ministry of Social Development in the Kingdom of Bahrain, the Charitable Organizations Regulatory Authority in the State of Qatar, the UAE Red Crescent Society and Qatari Red Crescent Society, the Princess Al-Anoud Charitable Foundation, the Al-Awazim Orphanage, and the Bahrain Association for the Care of Parents were also awarded the prize of the humanitarian action in the public and private sector category.
Al-Roya Press and Publishing Foundation in the Sultanate of Oman and the Executive Office of the Council of Ministers of Labor and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) were also honored for their partnership in organizing the event. (end)
