Kuwait Dive Team participates in World Cleanup Day

By Zahra Al-Kathemi KUWAIT, Sept 20 (KUNA) -- Kuwait Dive Team's Environmental Voluntary Foundation (EVF) participated in a campaign to clean the Kuwait Towers shore on Saturday, along with a group of volunteers, to mark World Cleanup Day.
The team removed numerous plastic and microplastic wastes, as well as some old carpets pieces.
The team's International Relations Officer, Dr. Dari Al-Huwail, told KUNA that the team participates annually in the World Cleanup Day campaign, which is held on the third Saturday of September every year around the world.
The campaign aims to collect and clean waste from beaches and waterways, and to raise awareness of the importance of preserving the cleanliness of the marine environment, since dangers of plastic waste can kill thousands of marine creatures, birds, and turtles.
Al-Huwail explained that this day is organized in cooperation with non-profit organizations and individual volunteers to collect and record waste to help understand its origins, find solutions, and combat it.
He emphasized the team's continued efforts to protect and rehabilitate the marine environment and clean the coasts periodically throughout the year, as they are a tourist destination and maintain ecological balance.
Al-Huwail praised the combined efforts of various public and private institutions in their cooperation in protecting and preserving the marine environment, reflecting environmental awareness and a belief in the necessity of its sustainability for future generations. (end) zhr.res
