Egypt welcomes UN roadmap to settle Libya crisis

CAIRO, Aug 23 (KUNA) -- Egypt lauded on Saturday the roadmap announced by UN Secretary General's Special Envoy Hanna Tetteh for the settlement of Libya's crisis, mainly the formation of a transitional government to take charge of holding national polls within 12-18 months.
Egypt stressed the significance of abiding by this timeframe as a crucial matter to ensure the credibility of the political process and meet Libyans' aspirations for stability and development, Egypt's Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
This could be achieved through a proper path aiming to hold legislative and presidential elections in parallel with unifying Libyan institutions through a new integrated government, it stated.
In this regard, Cairo renewed its full backing to the UN efforts aiming to restore security and stability in Libya in a way that preserves Libya's unity and sovereignty, according to the statement. (end) asm.hm
