Heavy rains kill 10 Indians, several injured in Maharashtra

NEW DELHI, Aug 19 (KUNA) -- At least 10 people were killed and several others were injured or displaced following torrential rains hitting several parts of India's Maharashtra.
The Press Trust of India reported quoting officials that rains pounded most parts of Maharashtra, leaving 10 persons dead, several others injured and displaced.
Mumbai city, known as the financial capital of India came closer to a standstill due to heavy downpour.
Properties and crops were damaged and road, railways and air services were severely hit forcing the authorities to shift hundreds to safer locations.
Chief Minister of Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis that Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts are facing crucial moments in the 48 hours.
A joint team comprising the Army, police and local residents are engaged in search, rescue and evacuation operations. (end) atk.mb
