JEDDAH, Aug 3 (KUNA) -- The 31st edition of THE International Basketball Federation'S (FIBA) Asia Cup 2025 will kick off in the Red Sea city of Jeddah on Tuesday, grouping teams from the Asian and Oceanic continents.
Saudi Arabia is hoting the Asian basketball tournament for the second time since 1997, when the capital Riyadh hosted the games.
The planned event's logo is inspired from the Saudi folkloric performance, "Al-Ardha."
A draw held in April placed Australia (the champion) in a Group A with Lebanon, South Korea, and Qatar. Group B includes Japan, Iran, Syria and Guam.
Saudi Arabia will play in Group C with China, Jordan and India.
Group D features New Zealand, the Philippines, the Chinese Taipei and Iraq.
Top teams from each group will qualify to the quarterlyfinals.
The FIBA Asia Cup is held once every four years. Manila hosted its first edition in 1960.
China had bagged the lion's share of the trophies (16 times), and Australia had won the last editions, 2017 and 2022. (end)
