BERLIN, July 27 (KUNA) -- German Chancellor Friedrich Merz expressed on Sunday his deep concern over the catastrophic humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, and called for the immediate delivery of aid as well as the implementation of a ceasefire.
He made the remarks during a phone call between Chancellor Merz and Israeli occupation's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, said German Government spokesman Stefan Kornelius in a press statement.
Merz intends to coordinate with the United States, the United Kingdom, France, and other EU countries in the coming days to improve the humanitarian situation in Gaza, Kornelius added.
A limited number of humanitarian aid trucks entered the Gaza Strip a few hours earlier through airdrops, the Rafah crossing, and the Karam Abu Salem crossing, following both Arab and international initiatives aimed at alleviating the dire conditions in the region.
Earlier today, the Israeli forces announced a temporary humanitarian truce in parts of the Gaza Strip, which started at 10 a.m. Jerusalem time and lasted until the evening. (end)
