NEW YORK, July 27 (KUNA) -- The Palestinian cause and the two-state solution for the Middle East region continue to face numerous challenges throughout the decades due to ongoing geopolitical reasons and the Israeli occupation's violations against the Palestinian people.
In light of the development, the UN is gearing up towards a high-level international conference from July 28 and 29 to advance comprehensive a settlement to the Palestinian cause and achieve much-sought peace in the Middle East against notions of military escalation perpetrated by the Israeli occupation's war machine.
The conference will witness a widespread participation from international law and human rights experts in addition to member states and organizations of the UN.
The conference is expected to see wide participation from international legal and human rights experts, along with representatives of UN member states and organizations.
Speaking to KUNA, Saudi Permanent Representative to the UN headquarters in New York, Abdulaziz Al-Wasil, said that the conference was crucial in the international efforts to reach a just and permanent solution to the Palestinian cause in addition to establishing the two-state solution.
He stressed that the security and stability of the region would not be achieved without the Palestinian people attaining their full rights, adding that the Saudi authorities stood in support of Palestinians gaining their lawful statehood.
Saudi Arabia was behind the launch of the Arab peace initiative of 2002, he asserted, noting that his country was also behind the recent international efforts to bring upon the two-state solution to the light.
He noted that work groups were currently coordinating with the UN and member states to achieve the conference's goals in executing UN resolutions pertaining to the two-state solution.
The Saudi envoy asserted that there was a strong global support for the success of the conference, calling on the international community of offer all assets to make the event a success.
For her part, Anne-Claire Legendre -- French Presidential Advisor for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) -- reaffirmed her country's stance with Saudi Arabia in achieving the goals of the conference.
Legendre stressed that the preparatory meeting for the international conference held back in May at the UNGA gathered in global support to this event aimed at creating a roadmap for implementing the two-state solution.
She indicated that the focus was on achieving a permanent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, allowing the release of the hostages, and enabling the unhindered access of humanitarian aid to the war-torn Gaza.
A political solution was necessary, she added, condemning on the occasion the aggressive behavior of Israeli occupation settlers on occupied land to hinder any attempt for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.
She asserted that the conference was a "turning point" gathering to achieve the two-state solution.
The upcoming conference will include several functions including a roundtable event and general discussions with opening statements by UNGA President Cameroon's Philemon Yang, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, Saudi Arabia and France in addition to observers and other officials.
The conference is expected to come out with a final communique on setting the roadmap for the Palestinian cause and achieving the two-state solution. (end)
