PARIS, July 24 (KUNA) -- French President Emmanuel Macron affirmed on Thursday that Paris decided to officially recognize the Palestinian state in line with its commitment to achieving permanent and fair peace in the Middle East region.
Tweeting on "X", Macron said the move would be taken during his speech before the UN General Assembly in September, noting peace is possible but it requires a common responsibility and encourage.
He stressed the immediate need of ending the current war in Gaza and saving civilians, calling for an immediate ceasefire and releasing all hostages as well as intensifying humanitarian aid access to Gazans.
French people desire peace in the Middle East and France will continue working with Israelis, Palestinians, and its European and international partners for this goal, he affirmed.
Macron revealed he received commitments from Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on some essential points. (end)
