China strongly opposes EU inclusion of Chinese entities in Russian sanctions

BEIJING, July 21 (KUNA) -- China opposed on Monday the European Union's (EU) decision to include five Chinese companies and two financial institutions in its latest list of sanctions against Russia.
In a statement reported by Xinhua News Agency, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce denounced the EU's move, stating that China has consistently opposed unilateral sanctions that lack a basis in international law and have not been approved by the UN Security Council.
The ministry criticized the EU for ignoring China's repeated objections and accused it of acting on fabricated allegations and warned that the decision would negatively impact China-EU economic, trade, and financial cooperation, and vowed to take firm measures to protect the legitimate rights of affected Chinese entities.
China's mission to the EU reiterated on Friday that Beijing has not supplied lethal weapons to any party in the Russia-Ukraine conflict and has maintained strict controls on dual-use exports.
The sanctions come ahead of the 25th China-EU Summit, set to be attended by European Council President Antonio Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in Beijing on Wednesday. (end) slq.dss
