Asst. FM takes part in preparations for World Summit for Social Development

TUNIS, June 30 (KUNA) -- Assistant Foreign Minister for Human Rights Affairs, Ambassador Sheikha Jawaher Ibrahim Al-Duaij Al-Sabah participated today in the Regional High-Level meeting hosted by Tunisia in preparation for the Second World Summit for Social Development, scheduled for next November in Qatar.
The Arab regional meeting, which is being held from June 30 to July 1, will be involving Arab Social Affairs Ministers and representatives from the GCC alongside regional and international organizations, presented by the Arab League in cooperation with the UN and the Tunisian Social Affairs Ministry.
The meeting will discuss the social development priorities that will be presented at the summit, namely eradicating poverty, achieving decent work environment, and promoting social integration, in addition to discussing social development issues facing the Arab region.
As for development issues in the region most notably on the agenda is combating poverty, enhancing employment opportunities, food security, universal health coverage, quality education, adapting to climate change, gender equality, and migration.
In 2015, the UN unanimously adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which aims to set the standard for global and national development policies and provide new options and opportunities to bridge the gap between human rights and development. (end) sbm.aq
