ISLAMABAD, May 29 (KUNA) -- At least four soldiers of Pakistan army were martyred while 12 terrorists were killed in separate security operations in Pakistan's northern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) and southwestern Balochistan provinces, said military on Thursday.
According to a press release issued by Pakistan military's media wing Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), seven terrorists "belonging to Indian proxy" were killed in two separate engagements in KPK.
It further said that the terrorists attempted to attack security forces check post in general area Shawal of North Waziristan tribal district.
The attempt was effectively thwarted by the troops and in ensuing fire exchange, six "Indian sponsored" terrorists were killed, said ISPR.
It confirmed that during intense fire exchange, a brave young officer who was leading his troops from front, fought gallantly and embraced martyrdom along with his three men.
The military said that in another encounter that took place in Chitral District, security forces successfully neutralized one "Indian sponsored" terrorist.
Operations are being conducted to eliminate any other terrorist found in the area as the security forces of Pakistan are determined to wipe out the menace of "Indian sponsored terrorism" from the country, and such sacrifices of our brave men further strengthen our resolve, the ISPR concluded.
Moreover, the ISPR in a statement confirmed that an intelligence-based operation in Balochistan's Loralai district effectively engaged the terrorists' location and after an intense exchange of fire "four Indian-sponsored terrorists were successfully neutralized."
The military further said that weapons, ammunition and explosives were also recovered, adding that the dead terrorists were involved in numerous terrorist activities including an attack that resulted in the deaths of 30 people.
In the second engagement in Kech District of Balochistan, one more terrorist was killed, ISPR confirmed.
Earlier on Sunday, security forces killed nine terrorists during a series of operations in Dera Ismail Khan district of KPK. The operations come at a time when Pakistan has witnessed a rise in terror attacks especially in KPK and Balochistan provinces bordering Afghanistan. (end)
