Thousands of Israeli extremist settlers storm Jerusalem's Old City

RAMALLAH, May 26 (KUNA) -- Thousands of extremist Israeli settlers stormed the Old City of Jerusalem on Monday during the annual Flag March organized by authorities to commemorate what they the Israeli occupation of city in 1967, amid widespread tension and tight security measures.
Palestinian Al-Quds governorate's Media department said in a press release that the march set off from the city center towards the Old city, where extremists attacked a number of residents and chanted racists slogans against Arabs and Palestinians.
Adding, that a number of Israeli government ministers, including National Security Minister Ben Gvir, and members of the Knesset took part in the march, which ended at the Western Wall west of Al-Aqsa Mosque.
Occupation forces had arrested journalist Tharwat Shaqra and her brother Mohammed Shaqra while covering the march, which resulted in transferring them to an interrogation center in the city.
The occupation forces reinforced their presence in the city and the Old city, deploying hundreds of troops in Jerusalem, erecting iron barriers, and restricting Palestinians' movement, and forcing shopkeepers to close their shops. (end) nq.aq
