Kuwait Health Min.: Blood Bank received 90,000 donors in '24

KUWAIT, May 26 (KUNA) -- Kuwaiti Health Minister Dr. Ahmad Al-Awadhi said Monday that Kuwait Central Blood Bank could draw more than 90,000 donors last year, who donated 190,000 blood products, including platelets, blood plasma, and red blood cells.
The minister made the remarks while addressing a celebration marking the 60th anniversary of the Central Blood Bank, World Blood Donor Day, and honoring blood donors.
The minister added that roughly 150,000 blood units were also provided last year to support healthcare for cancer, thalassemia and emergency patients in various hospitals nationwide.
He noted that the bank was established in 1965 to be the first integrated national blood transfusion center in the region and a launch pad for an integrated institutional system.
He boasted that it is one of the first blood banks in the region to obtain accreditation from the American Association of Blood Banks (AABB) since 1989, adding that it also obtained accreditation from the International Society of Blood Transfusion (ISBT) and accreditation from the College of American Pathologists (CAP).
