Security forces kill 9 militants in N. Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, May 25 (KUNA) -- Pakistani security forces killed nine militants during a series of operations in Pakistanآ’s northern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) province bordering Afghanistan, said the military on Sunday.
A press release by Pakistan militaryآ’s media wing Inter services Public Relations (ISPR) said, "Nine Indian Sponsored terrorists" were killed in three separate engagements in KPK, and an intelligence based operation was conducted by the security forces in Dera Ismail Khan district, on reported presence of militants.
It confirmed that during the operation, military troops effectively engaged the militantsآ’ location and after an intense exchange of fire, four militants were killed.
Another intelligence based operation was conducted in Tank district and in ensuing fire exchange, two more militants were killed by the security forces. In the third encounter that took place in the general area Bagh of Khyber tribal district, own troops successfully neutralized three more militants.
Weapons and ammunition were also recovered from the killed militants, who remained actively involved in numerous militants activities in these areas. Sanitization operations are being conducted to eliminate any other militants found in the area, as the security forces of Pakistan are determined to wipe out the menace of "Indian Sponsored Terrorism" from the country, said ISPR.
Earlier last week, at least 12 militants and two soldiers were killed in two separate operations by security forces in KPK and Balochistan provinces. The operations come at a time when Pakistan has witnessed a rise in terror attacks especially in KPK and Balochistan provinces bordering Afghanistan. (end) sbk.mt
