Deputy Permanent Representative Counselor Abdullah Al-Khubaizi
GENEVA, May 21 (KUNA) -- Permanent delegation of Kuwait to the United Nations in Geneva expressed on Wednesday Kuwait's deep concern over the deteriorating health and humanitarian situation in Palestine and the occupied Syrian Golan Heights.
This came in a statement by the Deputy Permanent Representative Counselor Abdullah Al-Khubaizi during the committee's work on the situation in Palestine and Syrian Golan, Heights under item 20 of the 78th session of the World Health Assembly.
He lambasted the continued repressive measures and systematic violations of targeting civilians.
Al-Kubaizi drew attention to reports issued by the World Health Organization, highlighting the magnitude of the challenges faced by the Palestinian health sector with the imposed blockade and restrictions on the movement of patients and medical personal still enforced.
He also condemned the repeated attacks on health facilities and ambulances, which have deprived thousands of civilians of their basic rights to health care and unhindered access to services.
He expressed Kuwait's strong stance on this unprecedented escalation in the Gaza Strip, which resulted in grave humanitarian and health tragedies, including mass casualties, spread of disease, severe shortage of medicines and supplies, and a near total collapse of the health sector.
In the same context, Al-Khubaizi stressed the need to enable the WHO to fully and unrestrictedly perform its duties in the occupied Palestinian territories as well as to provide the necessary technical and financial support needed.
The World Health Assembly (the decision-making body of WHO), is scheduled to adopt a draft resolution on the health situation in Palestinian territories, including east Jerusalem and the Golan Heights, during its 78th session, which runs until the 27th of this month. (end)
