KUWAIT, May 19 (KUNA) -- Al-Sadu Society organized a celebration on Monday to mark Kuwait being named a "World Crafts City" for Sadu weaving by the World Crafts Council (WCC), in recognition of its efforts to preserve this traditional craft.
The festival is held under the patronage of Minister of Information and Culture and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Abdulrahman Al-Mutairi, and will continue until next Thursday.
The ceremony was attended by Al-Asimah Governor Sheikh Abdullah Salem Al-Ali Al-Sabah, Secretary General of the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters (NCCAL) Mohammad Al-Jassar, General Supervisor of the Kuwait (Shift 10) competition Sheikh Athbi Salem Al-Salem Al-Sabah, as well as several ambassadors and diplomats, along with representatives of the World Crafts Council (WCC).
Sadu Society's chairman, Sheikha Bibi Duaij Al-Sabah, expressed her honor at Kuwait being named a "World Crafts City."
She emphasized that this craft reflects the Kuwaiti soul and showcases the skill of Kuwaiti women in transforming natural resources into artistic masterpieces, preserved in human memory.
Al-Jassar said in a statement that the international recognition of Kuwait demonstrates its ability to preserve its cultural heritage and conveying it to future generations.
WCC delegation head President Saad Al-Qaddoumi, told KUNA that he was very happy about this announcement, and he appreciated the role of the Sadu Society and its honorary leader, Sheikha Altaf Salem Al-Ali Al-Sabah, as well as the role of NCCAL.
The ceremony also announced the launch of the competition "Shift Kuwait," organized by Sheikh Salem Al-Ali Al-Sabah Informatics Award. This year, the competition is designed to raise awareness about the Sadu craft and strengthen its presence in the society, especially among youth. (end)
