Algerian Par'l elects new speaker

ALGIERS, May 19 (KUNA) -- The Aljerian Council of the Nation (upper house of Parliament), announced, Monday, Azzouz Nasri as its Speaker, Algeria Press Service said .
In a speech following his endorsement as the new Speaker of the National Assembly, Nasri affirmed that "the National Assembly will remain committed to its constitutional powers, cooperating with the other constitutional institutions of the state, and in line with the tasks the Constitution grants to the President of the Republic to ensure the proper functioning of the constitutional system." He called for "embracing parliamentary duty under all circumstances and in all actions, and devoting oneself fully to parliamentary performance, which includes preparing and voting on laws and monitoring the government's work." The inauguration follows the midterm elections for the elected members of the National Assembly, which took place on March 9.
