China decreases tariff on US imports to 10 pct as of Wed.

BEIJING, May 13 (KUNA) -- China declared on Tuesday amending tariff imposed on the US imports from 125 percent to 10 as of Wednesday, in implementation of the first trade talks' outcomes held between the two sides in Geneva.
China will reduce additional tariffs imposed on the US products in line with the announcement No. 4 of 2025 from 34 percent to 10, suspending 24 percent of them for 90 days as of Wednesday at 01:07 (Makka Time), the State Council Tariff Commission said in a statement aired by the CCTV.
It added that China would halt implementing tariffs by 91 percent in the announcements No. 5 and 6 of 2025.
The mutual decrease of tariffs between China and the US is compatible with the aspirations of producers and consumers of both sides, it said, noting that the move would contribute to commercial and economic exchange between the two largest economies.
On fentanyl, China's Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lin Jian said that China has made it clear more than once that fentanyl is the "U.S.'s problem, not China's". He indicated that it's the U.S.'s "responsibility to solve" the issue.
He said despite the goodwill China has shown, the U.S. "wrongly slapped tariffs" on Chinese imports by citing the issue of fentanyl.
He pointed out that the US should stop blaming China, and hold dialogue with China based on "equality, respect" and mutual benefit. (end) slq.hm
