CAIRO, May 5 (KUNA) -- The Arab League on Monday condemned drone attacks carried out by Sudan's paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on vital infrastructure near Port Sudan Airport, slamming the event as a dangerous escalation of the Sudanese conflict.
These attacks impede the safe transport of civilians, in addition to the delivery of humanitarian aid to all parts of Sudan, the Cairo-based bloc's chief Ahmed AbulGheit said in a statement.
The persistence of such acts not only threatens the "peace and unity" of Sudan, but is also detrimental to the stability and security of the region, the statement underlined.
The RSF drone strikes on Port Sudan Airport on Sunday was the first such attack on the eastern port city, with previous attacks having targeted army-controlled areas in central and northern Sudan. (end)
