AMMAN, May 5 (KUNA) -- Kuwait participated in the 3rd annual seminar on the independence of Supreme Audit Institutions (SAI) in the Arab Region, organized by the Jordanian Audit Bureau in cooperation with the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI), Monday.
During his opening speech, Jordanian Senate President Faisal Al-Fayez pointed out the importance of SAIs as the backbone of good governance to ensure compliance with laws and administrative standards.
He added that there are many challenges that may weaken their effectiveness, including political or executive interference in their work which limits their ability to make impartial decisions.
For his part, Jordanian Audit Bureau President Dr. Radhi Al-Hamadeen said in a similar speech that the independence of SAIs is a basic pillar of a good democracy and a guarantee for combatting corruption on all levels.
About 40 officials from Arab countries and Arab SAIs will discuss and exchange ideas to support the independence and empowerment of SAIs in their work, in addition to what has been presented.
Participating in the meeting from Kuwait was Undersecretary of the Kuwait State Audit Bureau (SAB) Yousef Al-Mazrouei. (end)
