Blast kills three policemen, wounds 16 in SW Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, April 15 (KUNA) -- At least three police officers were killed and 16 others received injuries when a blast targeted a vehicle of the Balochistan Constabulary in Pakistan's southwestern Balochistan province on Tuesday, said officials.
Balochistan government spokesperson, Shahid Rind in a statement to media said that a vehicle carrying policemen returning from Kalat was targeted with an improvised explosive device (IED) in Mastung district's Dasht Road.
He confirmed that three personnel of the Balochistan Constabulary, a part of the provincial police, were martyred in the blast while 16 others were wounded.
An emergency was imposed in the district hospitals following the blast. The injured policemen were shifted to government run hospitals where the condition of two wounded people is reported critical. No group has so far claimed responsibility for the attack.
President of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned the terrorist attack, expressing their grief over the martyrdom of the Balochistan Constabulary cops.
President Zardari prayed for the early recovery of the injured and reiterated the nation's resolve for continuous efforts to wipe out terrorism from the country.
PM Shehbaz in a statement said, "We will thwart the nefarious designs of the terrorists, who are enemies of humanity.
Our war against terrorists will continue until the scourge of terrorism is completely eradicated from the country.
The premier directed that immediate medical assistance be provided to those injured. (end) sbk.mb
