IFRC chief confirms cooperation with Egypt over Gaza rebuilding plan

CAIRO, March 11 (KUNA) -- The President of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, Kate Forbes, confirmed on Tuesday, the Federation's readiness to cooperate with Egypt in implementing the reconstruction plan for Gaza Strip, given the Federation's experience in relief and humanitarian support around the world.
In a statement, the Egyptian Prime Minister office said this came during a meeting held by Egyptian Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly with Forbes, which focused on cooperation between the International Federation and Egypt in the next phase.
The statement added that Forbes informed Madbouly that the International Federation looks forward to cooperating with Egypt in the humanitarian aspect of the early recovery and reconstruction plan for Gaza.
The statement noted that IFRC chief also confirmed that the Federation also looks forward to increasing cooperation with the Egyptian side by expanding its activities regionally from Egypt, expressing appreciation for the level of cooperation between the two sides.
The statement quoted Forbes as saying that Egypt "played the most prominent role" in terms of bringing humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.
At the same time, she praised the humanitarian support provided by Cairo to the Sudanese people who are suffering due to the war there.
For his part, Madbouly welcomed cooperation with the IFRC, especially in relation to Gaza reconstruction plan, which was adopted by the extraordinary Arab summit hosted by Egypt last Tuesday.
The Egyptian premier stressed that his country will remain committed to providing the necessary aid to Palestinians in Gaza Strip, despite the practices of the Israeli occupation that prevent the entry of aid. (end) mm.mb
