MOSCOW, March 11 (KUNA) -- Russian authorities announced on Tuesday that one person was killed and six others injured late Monday, in a large-scale Ukrainian drone attack on the capital Moscow.
The Russian Ministry of Defense stated that air defense units shot down 337 Ukrainian drones overnight, with 91 of them targeting Moscow region only.
Moscow Governor Andrey Vorobyov reported that the attack killed one person and injured two others in the Domodedovo area, while six others, including a child, sustained minor injuries in the town of Vidnoye
Commenting on the attack, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova claimed that the attack was not coincidence as it coincided with a visit by OSCE Secretary-General Kairat Abdrakhmanov, suggesting that Kyiv sought to stage this massive attack.
She reaffirmed that Russia would continue to counter what it described as "terrorist attack" targeting its territory.
The attack also caused material damage at Domodedovo Airport.
In response, Russia's Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviatsia) imposed temporary flight restrictions at Sheremetyevo Airport before later announcing that operations had resumed at others airports.
Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin confirmed that they shot down 91 drones as they approached the city, adding that authorities were assessing the damage and taking the necessary actions to protect residents.
Meanwhile, Russia's Federal Investigative Committee (IC) launched a terrorism case over the attack, stating that investigations are ongoing to determine those responsible.
As the Ukrainian strikes on Russian territories escalate, analysts question whether this escalation could prompt a shift in Moscow's military approach, especially with upcoming international meetings.
The attack came ahead of the anticipated high-stakes talks in Jeddah, where Kiev is expected to present Washington with a proposal for a partial ceasefire with Russia. (end)
