WASHINGTON, July 13 (KUNA) -- The US military have killed Umar Khalifa, a known leader in Tariq Gidar Group, along with another four enemy combatants amid airstrikes in Afghanistan, the Pentagon said on Wednesday.
The individuals were killed in airstrikes that were targeting Islamic State Khorasan Province members in Nangarhar Province on Saturday, read a statement by US Department of Defense Press Secretary Peter Cook.
Khalifa orchestrated multiple terrorist operations in Pakistan, including the January 2016 attack on Bacha Khan University, the September 2015 Badaber Air Force Base attack, and the December 2014 Peshawar school attack that resulted in the deaths of more than 130 children, the statement mentioned.
"This strike was taken pursuant to US rules of engagement and counter-terrorism interests," said the statement. (end)
