(With photos) DAMASCUS, March 18 (KUNA) -- Many countries have acknowledged that it was impossible to deal with the Palestinian situation without Hamas, Former Senator at the Italian Parliament Fernando Rossi said Wednesday.
"We recognize Hamas as a representative of the Palestinian people, and resistance is the sole choice in the battle of liberation," Rossi after meeting with Chairman of the Palestinian National Resistance Movement (Hamas) politburo Khaled Mishaal.
He called for an immediate reconstruction of Gaza and lifting the unfair siege imposed on the Strip.
The meeting had discussed latest developments on the Palestinian situation with a European delegation comprising MPs and figures from Greece and Italy.
"The visit of the European delegation is an important step in the direction of the European openness. The delegation is very interested in supporting the Palestinian people and this was embodied by what has been proposed by the MPs during the talks," Sami Khater, member of Hamas politburo said in a joint press conference with the European delegation.
Khater underlined Hamas's commitment to make the Palestinian national dialogue a success, reach an accord among all Palestinian factions and work with utmost flexibility to realize the reconciliation, Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported.
For his part, Chairman of the Greek delegation and Head of Greek chapter for the European Campaign to end the blockade on Gaza Georgios Anastasopoulous expressed his country and Europe's solidarity with the Palestinians, adding that their visit comes in the framework of inspecting the latest developments of the inter-Palestinian situation.
He called for protecting the Palestinian people, who face "inhumane" practices by the Israeli Army; underlining the importance of respecting the Palestinian people's will to choose their representatives.
