ABU DHABI, Jan 10 (KUNA) -- A nation-wide fund raising campaign has
collected AED 315 million (USD 85.8 million) in funds and materials to help
the Palestinian people in Gaza Strip.
The fund raising campaign, aired through all television and radio stations
in the UAE yesterday, was held under the slogan "Help Them."
UAE President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al-Nuhayyan pledged to build 600
houses for Palestinians whose homes were destroyed, while Vice President and
Dubai Ruler Sheikh Mohammad bin Rashed Al-Maktoum pledged an equal number.
On his part Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of UAE Red Crescent
Authority (RCA) Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al-Nuhayyan thanked the country's
leadership for their directives and for their generous contributions to the
campaign.
In a statement carried by Emirates News Agency (WAM), he also thanked the
UAE citizens and residents, saying that the donations received had exceeded
expectations.
Sheikh Hamdan said RCA, in association with the humanitarian relief and
charity organizations in the UAE, would coordinate with the UNRWA and other
international aid organizations to distribute relief in a timely manner. (end)
