GENEVA, Dec 12 (KUNA) -- The Swiss parrliament elected today Pascal
Couchepin as president of the Swiss Confederation and Federal Council for 2008.
A member of the Radical Democratic Party, Couchepin was born on April 5,
1942, and represented Martigny, Canton Valais since 11 March 1998 in the Swiss
parliament.
He occupied the same position as President in 2003, vice-president in 2002
and 2007, minister of the economy (1998-2002) and of the interior in 2003.
The Swiss Federal System is defined by a rotating presidency which changes
each year. (end)
