NEW YORK, Dec 7 (KUNA) -- The renowned Kuwaiti musician and academic Fawzi
Al-Langawi was chosen by UNESCO along with a small number of internationally
celebrated musicians to perform this week in a concert, "Melody for Peace -
L'Italiana in Algeri - Rossini."
The event, due at the world famour theatre Licoln Center, was cosponsored
by the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), The
Melody for Dialogue among Civilizations Association (MDACA), and Northeastern
University.
The goal of the special event is to promote peace, respect for cultural
diversity and create a unique bond among humanity through the universal
language of music performed by artists from around the world.
Al-Langawi, who plays Oud, is part of an ensemble of 35 musicians from all
over the world performing the indigenous instruments of their homeland.
The musicians are from Canada, Japan, Germany, China, India, Turkey,
Malaysia, Serbia and other countries.
They performed in Paris, Cuba, Nigeria and soon in Italy.
Al-Langawi told KUNA he feels "very proud" to be chosen by UNESCO to
represent Kuwait and the Arab world in this concert. (end)
