Swiss science consulates seeking collaboration with int''l counterparts

GENEVA, Nov 12 (KUNA) -- The annual meeting of the Swiss science consulates (swissnex) addressed the issue of scientific collaboration and exchange of expertize between Switzerland and other international scientific institutions.
"Switzerland has to compete globally for the best minds. It needs to promote it-self abroad as an attractive location for education, research and innovation," said the Swiss State Secretariat for Education and Research (SER) in the occasion of its annual meeting in the Swiss capital Bern.
About half of the lecturers at Swiss universities are foreign nationals. This makes Switzerland one of the world's leading centres for international education.
The Swiss Federal Council is keen to continue its policy of promoting international exchange and importing talent in accordance with its international strategy for education, research and innovation. Science diplomacy supports these efforts in Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa in particular.
The Federal Councillor and Minister of Education and Research Alain Berset recognized that Swiss universities have an interest in the global exchange of young talent and top researchers. The swissnex science consulates play an important role in this. These centres are important in presenting Switzerland as a location for expertise and know-how. They also enable leading minds to network. Furthermore, they give highly skilled Swiss in and around Boston, San Francisco, Singapore, Shanghai and Bangalore the opportunity to remain in touch with their home country.
At this year's swissnex Day, Federal Research Minister Alain Berset will be speaking on the topic of brain circulation. Other speakers include State Secretary Mauro Dell'Ambrogio, Prof.
