UK urges Russia, Assad regime to stop hostilities in Eastern Ghouta

LONDON, March 6 (KUNA) -- The United Kingdom has called on Russia and the Syrian regime to stop bombardment of Eastern Ghouta and show commitment to the Kuwait and Sweden-proposed UN Security Council Resolution 2401 on 30-day truce in Syria.
"We demand that Russia and the regime cease hostilities immediately and ensure the sustained delivery of humanitarian aid to Eastern Ghouta and medical evacuations," UK Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson said in a press statement Monday.
"The people of Eastern Ghouta can wait no longer." Johnson expressed deep concerns about the continued military campaign against the civilians of Eastern Ghouta.
He lamented the credible reports that Russian aircraft are actively participating alongside the Assad regime, contrary to the Security Council's demand in UNSCR 2401 for a 30-day ceasefire in Syria.
He noted that the areas suffering from bombardments are civilian populated areas.
"The people of Eastern Ghouta have endured enough, among broken promises of ceasefires and humanitarian pauses," he concluded. (end) kd.ibi
