Iran urges Europe to press US to remain committed to JCPOA

TEHRAN, March 5 (KUNA) -- Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has called on Europe to put pressure on the US to remain committed to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
The Iranian top diplomat made his call in a meeting with visiting French counterpart Jean-Yves Le Drian in Tehran on Monday, Iranian local media reported.
The two foreign ministers called for the full implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
Zarif criticized allegations made by some European officials in relation to implementation of the JCPOA and their leniency to the US pressures.
Ten reports issued by the IAEA testified that Iran had been fully committed to its pledges with regards to its peaceful nuclear program, Zarif said, adding that presently 'we are target of US illogical conspiracies but we believe that Europe can plan a very prominent role' in preserving such great achievements.
"Preserving this international diplomatic achievement should be important to all sides and mere oral supports will not suffice," he said.
For his part, Le Drian said Paris believes the JCPOA should be fully implemented and for the same reason it has invested in Iran's automobile industry and energy as well as setting up joint venture investment opportunities for both sides projects.
Europe and France in particular are committed to sound implementation of the JCPOA despite of mounting pressures from the US, he said.
The two ministers also discussed latest regional and global developments mainly those in Syria and Yemen. (end) mw.ibi
