AMMAN, March 5 (KUNA) -- An aid convoy crossed into Syria's eastern Ghouta on Monday, after a ceasefire was concluded in the enclave, said the UN Resident/Humanitarian Coordinator for Syria Ali Al-Za'tari. The convoy was stripped of vital medical material.
Accompanying the convoy, Al-Za'tari added that 46 trucks carrying humanitarian and relief supplies entered the Ghouta's Duma town, and would be unloaded at Al-Hal market to be distributed among people.
The UN humanitarian convoy goes beyond the daily five-hour truce, under guarantees of ceasefire, he revealed saying that unloading could continue until late into the night.
A second convoy, slated for Thursday, will be coordinated with the Syrian official bodies and the Russians, he noted.
Earlier today, a World Health Organization (WHO) official said Syrian authorities had removed up to 70 percent of the medical supplies from the UN vehicles, preventing surgical kits, insulin, dialysis equipment and other supplies from reaching the enclave of 400,000 people. (end)
