Eight Turkish soldiers killed in Syria's Afrin

ANKARA, March 1 (KUNA) -- The General Staff of the Turkish Army announced Thursday that eight soldiers were killed and 13 others wounded in clashes with terrorists in Afrin region, northwest Syria.
The fatalities took to 41 the death toll of the Turkish troops in addition to 180 injuries since the start of the Operation Olive Branch against the US-backed Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG), Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) and the so-called Islamic State (IS or Daesh).
On the other hand, the YPG/PKK and IS militants suffered at least 2,222 deaths, and lost 115 strategic points and 87 villages in the region to the Turkish army and the Turkish-backed Free Syrian Army since January 20, 2018, said a Turkish military statement earlier today. (end) rs.gb
