ISTANBUL, March 1 (KUNA) -- President of the International Islamic Charitable Organization (IICO) Dr. Abdullah AL-Matouq won the Istanbul Diplomacy Award in recognition of his contributions to the development of a vision for an integrated Islamic world.
The prize was offered on Thursday as part of the Third Islamic World Istanbul Awards (2018).
Al-Matouq, also adviser to the Amiri Diwan and the UN Secretary General's Humanitarian Envoy for Kuwait, is the first Kuwaiti personality to be honored at the World Islamic Forum, being held here on an annual basis since 2010.
He expressed gratitude to His Highness the Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah for his firm support to the IICO.
"The winning of the award culminated the constant support to our humanitarian efforts for a long time by His Highness the Amir, the Humanitarian Leader," Dr. Al-Matouq said in statements to KUNA on the fringes of the ceremony.
"Kuwait's pioneering role in the relief efforts at the behest of His Highness the Amir is clearly seen across the world," he pointed out, noting that today's honoring is added to the long tally of the Kuwaiti charities.
The Eighth World Islamic Forum kicked off earlier today in the presence of more than 600 scholars and academics from 35 member countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). (pickup previous) ta.wa.gb
