Bad weather disrupts transportation in Japan

TOKYO, March 1 (KUNA) -- Stormy weather hit much of Japan on Thursday, disrupting traffic due to strong winds. As of 8:30 p.m. (1200 GMT), at least 365 flights were cancelled, including those to and from Tokyo's Haneda airport, according to the airlines.
The bad weather also delayed Shinkansen bullet trains in western Japan, the operators said.
The Japan Meteorological Agency said a strong low pressure system with heavy winds hit the area, warning that the low pressure system will continue to develop in northeastern Japan.
Up to 70 centimeters of snow are expected to fall in some areas of northern Japan, the weather agency said, urging people to take precautions. (end) mk.mt
